British Prime Minister Theresa May arrived in Berlin for Brexit talks with Angela Merkel on Tuesday, but the German chancellor wasn’t there to greet her.
Merkel traditionally waits for important guests on the red carpet outside the chancellery, but when May’s car pulled up, the chancellor was nowhere to be seen, so May walked right on in.
A few seconds later, May and Merkel reappeared and walked back down the red carpet, shook hands for the cameras and then disappeared back inside. According to Bild, the chancellor apologized for being late.

The May-Merkel talks were scheduled to include an “exchange of views on Britain’s exit from the EU,” Merkel’s spokesman, Steffen Seibert, said.
The British prime minister has awkward form at the German chancellery. In December, May’s car door wouldn’t open for a few agonizing seconds, while Merkel stood waiting on the red carpet while it poured with rain.
