Boris Johnson: Brexit deal looks ‘very, very difficult’

LONDON — The British premier said he is prepared to keep negotiating a trade deal with the EU right up until the wire, and remains “optimistic” about his forthcoming face-to-face meeting with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Speaking during a visit to a London hospital Tuesday, Boris Johnson stressed that talks are “tricky” and achieving a deal is “looking very, very difficult at the moment.”

Following a call with von der Leyen Monday, the leaders agreed that negotiations were stuck but that they would meet in person “in the coming days.”
