Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the U.K. would recover “our mojo” on his first trip since leading his party to a resounding election win.
Taking a victory lap on Saturday through the north-east of England, where Conservatives made historic gains in Labour strongholds, Johnson pledged to “repay” the trust of voters by delivering on Brexit, improving the National Health Service and spreading opportunity around the country.
“Our country’s now embarked on a wonderful adventure,” Johnson said in Sedgefield, Tony Blair’s old constituency which turned from red to blue on Thursday. “We’re going to recover our national self-confidence, our mojo, our self-belief.”
Now that he has a firm majority of MPs prepared to back his Brexit deal, Johnson said, “We can definitely get it in before Christmas” ahead of a January 31 withdrawal deadline.
